The Extraordinaries was a popular internet site that had people using a social network type of format to do simple tasks on the internet to benefit their community and to give back. The concept is fantastic and the original site made it extremely simple to be an “Extraordinary.” And like all fantastic internet sites the same developer’s have created the new Extraordinaries application, and this adds a whole new level of practicality of the concept. Now whenever a user has even the slightest free time, such as waiting for a meeting or waiting in an airport, they can simply flip out their iPhone and give back, by doing something extraordinary right on their mobile device. The fantastic idea is already spreading and their are many new users of the site thanks to the publicity of the new application. This is definitely hinting to other major internet powers to put in the time to create possibly the best advertising technique in the current time.

Overview: In Spin Art, there is a spinning canvas with many different colors and shades of paint that the user would splatter onto the canvas and it makes a unique picture. When I saw this app, it brought back many wonderful memories painting with my old style spin art machine.

Features: With this app, the user can easily upload his or her picture to Flickr or to their photo library on the iPhone or iPod Touch. It is very easy to change the speed of the canvas. You can change the brush to be thick or more like spray paint. Or if you just want to doodle, you can stop the spinning of the canvas and just draw.

Pros: All of the many different colors and sizes of the brushes make it easier to be more creative with your painting! The finished picture makes a wonderful background for your iPhone or iPod. When you exit the app, it saves your canvas for next time so you do not need to start over. There is an option to change the background on the canvas to a picture saved in your library. That makes it so you can splatter over your own pictures! There is also an option to use a unique paint with all the colors combined.

Cons: One problem that I found is that there is no way to undo what I just put on the canvas. That would make it difficult because if you mess up it changes the whole picture. I also saw that the paint easily goes off the paper and it makes it look odd in my opinion.

Conclusion: Spin Art is a unique app and worth one dollar. Except for the one small problem, it is entertaining and full of creativity. It is great for all ages. From making a spiral, or drawing a picture, I suggest this app for anyone who loves art!

Overview: Are you hungry? Then More Toast is the app for you! Create your own toast and decorate it with dozens of random toppings and condiments. Once you’re done decorating your toast, you can tap the screen and take bites of your toast.

Features: The app is very customizable with the ability to toast white bread, wheat bread, English muffins, plain bagel, waffles, strudel pastry, toaster pastry, toaster pancakes, French toast, crumpets, and marble rye. The plate can also change to several unique designs. Like I said before, there are many toppings like butter, strawberry jam, cream cheese, smoked salmon, maple syrup, strawberry syrup, and apple butter, and the list goes on. It is a simple application, but is loaded with features that can be interchanged.

Pros: It is very entertaining to see the random toppings. The toast and toppings look very real. Also, the developers update it often with more toppings and toast.

Cons: After many times using this app it starts to become bland, but after a few updates its a lot more interesting!

Conclusion: This app is very entertaining and a great boredom buster! It might not seem worth $1.00, but it can keep you entertained for at least 10 minutes. Lots of my friends take my iPod Touch from me to play More Toast! There is also an app very similar to this called More Pizza but is does not have as many toppings.

Get ready for the “big game” with some fun, high quality football apps!

Madden NFL 10 ($6.99 -> $4.99): This is a licensed game by EA that includes most players, all 32 teams, and has great graphics. Definitely a must have for any NFL fan.

NFL 2010 ($2.99 -> $.99): This is a lot like Madden and is a lower price. Madden is preferred over this game, but I recommend you get this if you are careful with your money.

Flick Kick Field Goal ($1.99 -> $.99): This is a app where you kick field goals and can play on many different game types. Adjust the angle, pick the power of the kick, and have fun!

LED Football ($.99 -> Free): This app is based off one of those game devices that used to be very well known before the invention of game consoles. There are dots on the screen you control just like a normal football game. It is free so you got nothing to lose!

Overview: There are many IM clients on the App Store and most of them refer to a specific instant messaging website such as AIM or Jabber. Well, Beejive is the best IM client because it brings together over 7 of the internet’s top IM clients, and allows you to bring all your accounts together in an organized and easy-to-use app loaded with features. Now most people use at least one or more of the 8 IM services offered in the app if the person likes to socialize. Now personally I have around 6 of the 8 that I use to keep up-to-date with friends and my websites’ news. Beejive is obviously one of the greatest tools for the iPhone and is definitely the top IM app in the App Store. Now of course our desktops get crowded with iChat, AIM, Jabber, and Facebook and at one point you just simply want it pulled together in a manageable way and that is exactly what the developers of Beejive have accomplished.

Features: Now this app is loaded with the greatest features from all the personal IM applications. It utilizes the iPhone’s push notification to send you alerts when someone from any of your social networks is IMing you. Now the way you set up the app is fast and easy. Simply select the social networks you want to add to Beejive and enter in the username and password. Soon you’ll be on your way to chatting with all your friends. The app uses a unique utility called Meta Contacts which allows the user to integrate all their chats into one, and reply in different social networks.  Several apps in the App Store allow you to IM but very few allow the user to group chat from their mobile device. BeejiveIM is the best IMing app on the App Store because of its adaptability and versatility. Since the variety of clients are so diverse it adds to the overall appeal of the app.  One the coolest features in Beejive is that the app lets you record voice messages and share pictures right within the app to all the different IM clients. One of the greatest additions that shows Beejive’s obvious superiority is that the app allows you to type in landscape mode which is not included in the native apps of its kind. Now the reason Beejive stands out is obvious in just the overall setup and user interface. The user can fully customize their settings. He or she also has the ability to alter the colors of chat bubbles, change IM notification sounds, set a chat background, as well as going into detail and alter borders. These functions allow the user to personalize and tweak the application to their liking which is highly popular among users.

Pros: With access to all your social networks in one app saves the trouble of downloading the native app for each. You don’t have to struggle to differentiate between speech bubbles or even double take to see a message displayed poorly. The features allow so much for the user to do and alter, that creates a pleasant, effortless and fast application. Unlike apps such as AIM there is absolutely no lagging. The second a message would have been displayed on my computer, it also hits my Beejive app at the same time.

Cons: Although the app comes loaded with tons of features, some people may be skeptical about how many features are actually needed and if it’s worth the price tag of $9.99. Personally I think it is worth it, seeing to it that I use most of the features offered but for someone who uses only Facebook IM and AIM it might be more handy to download the free versions of each instead of coughing up the cash.

Conclusion: The app’s level of polish and astonishing quantity of features makes both the price tag and the cons overlooked. You can tell how much work the developers put into the application and it makes for one of the most useful apps in the App Store. If you are still unsure of whether to make a purchase or not I would recommend you be decisive. The price of the app does tend to fluctuate and has gone up as high as $15.99. I would still highly recommend this app to any person who instant messages daily.
